2012 Trip to Gettysburg!  Join in the Fun.

Join the Licking County Civil War Commemoration for an informative getaway April 26 – 28, 2012 to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland in honor of the 150th commemoration of the Civil War.

The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest one-day battle in American history. Twenty three thousand soldiers were killed, wounded or missing after twelve hours of savage combat on September 17, 1862. The Battle of Antietam ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia’s first invasion into the North and led to Abraham Lincoln’s issuance of the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.

The small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania was the site of the largest battle ever waged during the American Civil War. Fought in the first three days of July 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg resulted in a hallmark victory for the Union Army of the Potomac and successfully ended the second invasion of the North by General Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. Historians have referred to the battle as a major turning point in the war, the "High Water Mark of the Confederacy." It was also the bloodiest single battle of the war, resulting in over 51,000 soldiers killed, wounded, captured or missing.

Join us on this in depth visit regarding the events that helped to shape the future of our country. We are pleased that E. Chris Evans, Civil War scholar, relic collector and amateur historian will be joining us for our trip! Chris serves on the Licking County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee and is a past board member of the Civil War Institute of the Ohio Historical Society. He has been published in both Blue & Gray and the Civil War Times journals. We appreciate Chris joining us for this trip and for providing his commentary to us traveling to and from the Gettysburg and Antietam areas!

  • Call Cindy Hollis (740-349-3724) for detailed information. Pricing starts at $399 per person.
