A visit to historic Blackhand Gorge provides the nature lover with the beauty of 970 wooded acres and an awe-inspiring gorge. A 4.25 mile bike trail, hiking, bird watching and canoeing are additional attractions of the beautiful natural setting. Old locks of the Ohio and Erie Canal add to the uniqueness of the setting. Blackhand Gorge allegedly marked the boundary of a sacred Indian Territory where no man was to raise his hand against another.
Blackhand Gorge is open daily from daylight to dusk, and is located 9 miles east of Newark, just south of State Route 146, call (740) 763-4411.
