What To Do

Granville Historical Society Museum, The Granville Historical Society Museum, The

Charles W. Bryant, Crayton Black, Francis Shepardson chartered the society in 1885. Bryant is credited with the fine genealogical records and documentation of gravestones in the Old Burying Grounds. A fellow historian, Rev. Henry Bushnell published the History of Granville, Ohio in 1889. Since then several significant historical documents and histories has been published in and about the village of Granville including the three-volume Bicentennial history in 2005.

The society museum, an 1816 building that has been the Bank of the Alexandrian Society, is a legacy of Granville's Sesquicentennial in 1955. The Society publishes a quarterly, The Historical Times, presents programs of local historical interest, and in 2000 conduced an oral history project document the past fifty years. It is parent to the Welsh Society, presents an award to the Historian of the Year, and an annual award to the Historian of the Year, and an annual award to a High School student that excels in history.
Hours: April-October, weekends
